Unlocking the power of AI: Are your employees ahead of the game?

Earlier this year, we read a fascinating report from McKinsey, called: Superagency in the workplace: Empowering people to unlock AI’s full potential.

For us, one of the most interesting findings was this:

The thing holding companies back from fully adopting AI is C-suite leaders.

Employees are ready to go. In fact, they are already embracing generative AI in their workplaces, using large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT to help them with tasks and free up their time so they can be more innovative and creative.

But leaders are some way behind. The McKinsey report said:

“AI now is like the internet many years ago: The risk for business leaders is not thinking too big, but rather too small.”

Are you feeling brave?

C-suite leaders need to be bold. They need to show their teams that not only do they understand that AI is going to be a fundamental part of the business – but that they are actively pursuing a strategy to help them get there.

It’s no longer about being an ‘adopter’. It’s about not falling behind.

What’s holding leaders back? In our conversations around AI-driven business analytics, we often hear the following:

  • Our teams are not ready.
  • It’s going to be too expensive.
  • It’s disruptive to implement.
  • We’re worried about change.

Let’s address these.

  1. Your teams ARE ready. In fact, they’re desperate for you to show AI leadership.

Your teams know that AI is going to be part of their working lives. They already know that it may replace a percentage of their current work. They want to know how you’re going to manage that, and how you’re going to train them to work alongside AI – not be replaced by it. And your Millennial and Gen Z employees are already using AI all the time. They want to know why you’re not keeping up.

  1. It’s expensive to ignore AI. You will lose your competitive edge quickly if you don’t integrate AI into your business. You’ll fail to see the efficiencies and opportunities that AI insights are bringing to your competitors. And you’ll lag behind when it comes to recruiting and retaining the best people.
  2. It’s disruptive to stay where you are. Like it or not, AI is here to stay. Deciding to stay where you are will damage your business. You need to be responsive and proactive. Putting your head in the sand will leave your business behind the crowd.
  3. Change is the only constant. Yes, AI means change to the way you do things. Managed well, and with a clear AI strategy, it brings positive change. It supports your people to perform even better. It allows you to drive transformative business change based on real-time facts and insights. And it allows you to future-proof your business for the growth you want to see.

It’s time to step up. Make the call that counts. Why not book it with us today?
